The Shreveport Mudbugs (10-5-1) netted eight goals enroute to a comfortable 8-3 victory and sweep over the Colorado Grit at the Greeley Ice Haus late Saturday afternoon.
Colorado netted the game’s first goal at 5:48 of the opening period as Makhai Sparks snapped in his first goal of the season to give the Grit an early 1-0 lead. SHV responded at 9:08 as Foster Nichol fired home his first goal of the year from the right point through traffic to even the score, 1-1. Colin Vassallo picked up the only assist. SHV would then take their first lead of the contest on the PP as Ryan Burke slinged in his seventh goal of the campaign from the LW circle with a wicked shot to make it a 2-1 contest. The Bugs led in SOG, 11-9 after one.
The Grit would tie the game at 10:32 on the PP as Nick Capasso shot in the rebound in front for his first tally to make it a 2-2 contest. SHV would come right back at 13:53 as Burke would blast in his second goal of the contest from the LW circle to give the Bugs a 3-2 lead. The visiting team would cash in again at 16:59 as Colin Vassallo would swat in a rebound in front for his fifth goal of the campaign and push the SHV advantage to 4-2. Burke and Liam Fleet earned the helpers on Vassallo’s goal. SHV led in SOG, 22-20 at the end of two.
After Colorado netted a goal early in the third period, it was all Mudbugs after that. Andrej Paricka roofed in his second goal of the year in front to make it a 6-3 contest at 6:18. Lucas Deeb earned the helper. Then it was Deeb, Bryce Boucher and Kyan Haldenby adding goals at 13:53, 16:53, and 18:06 respectively to close out a convincing 8-3 victory for Shreveport over Colorado.
Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau made 27 stops to help SHV earn the sweep over the Grit.
The Bugs will conclude their road trip next Thursday as they’ll begin a two-game series against the Amarillo Wranglers. It’ll be their school themed contest on Thursday with puck drop scheduled for 11 a.m.
