The Shreveport Mudbugs (3-0) netted seven unanswered goals to blowout the Bismarck Bobcats, 7-1 and stay perfect in NAHL Showcase Friday afternoon.
Bismarck got on the board first in the opening period when Carter Cormier scored on a shot through traffic to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead at 16:51.
The Bugs would regroup and retool in the second period and at 1:16 it was Logan Heroux in traffic slipping in his second goal of the season in front to even the score, 1-1. Ian Emery earned the only assist on Shreveport’s first tally. SHV would get more contribution from their hometown kid in Brayden Cook who slammed in his first goal of the campaign along the short side to give the Bugs a 2-1 edge at 9:14 in which they never looked back on. The two-time Robby Cup Champs cashed in on the PP at 14:59 as newbie Colin Vassalo blistered a shot through from the right circle to make it a 3-1 contest.
SHV would be doing it all in the third period as they scored a shorthanded tally when Ryan Burke skated through the slot and faked out their netminder and backhanded home his second tally in as many games to push the lead to 4-1 at 5:07. Hayden Nichol and newcomer Hank Reed would score on back to back shots on nets – nine seconds to increase the advantage to 6-1 and 16:36 and 16:45 respectively. Reed wouldn’t stop as he buried another goal through the five-hole in front of the net at 19:54 to close out a 7-1 Bugs’ victory over the Bismarck Bobcats.
Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau was sensational in net stopping 21 of 22 shots that he faced to earn his first win between the pipes in his Mudbug debut.
The Mudbugs will close out their NAHL Showcase tomorrow morning as they’ll take on the Maryland Black Bears. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 a.m.
