Brown Bears Drop the Bugs

Oct 22, 2017

The Shreveport Mudbugs (10-3-1) fell 5-4 in a wild, up and down game against the Kenai River Brown Bears in front of a packed house Saturday night.
A wild and wacky 1st period started with calmness as Ryan Burnett tipped home a shot from Cameron Cook at 17:28 to tie the game up at 1. The Brown Bears went on to score two goals in less than a minute to put Shreveport in a 3-1 hole with 40 seconds to go in the period. Jordan Fader then beat the buzzer as he backhanded home his fourth goal of the year at 19:59 to make it a 3-2 contest after 1 period of play.
Shreveport tied the game late in the 2nd period when team point leader Brendan VanSweden wristed home a beauty for his 5th goal of the year making it a 3-3 contest at the 13:00 mark.
The score stayed tied at 3 after two periods of play.
Both teams exchanged goals in the third period making it a 4-4 contest after three periods of play.
The contest went to a shootout where former Mudbug Emils Ezitis scored the only goal in the sessions propelling Kenai River to a 5-4 victory over Shreveport.
The Bugs get a hard earned point tonight giving them 21 on the season as they sit atop the South Division.

The Mudbugs will head up further North in Alaska to take on the Fairbanks Ice Dogs for a two-game set beginning next Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30pm CT.
