Brahmas Run Past Bugs

The Shreveport Mudbugs (33-18) hung tough early, but fell to the Lone Star Brahmas,4-1 Friday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.

Both teams traded good scoring chances, but both goalies stood tall in net in a scoreless opening period. Lone Star led in SOG, 12-8 after one period of play.

The Brahmas broke through at 9:16 of the 2nd period on the PP when Michal Stinil redirected home his 19th goal of the season on the far side to give Lone Star the 1-0 lead. The Bugs stormed back a minute later though when Anton Rubstov clawed the puck off the near corner wall and rifled home his seventh goal of the season from the slot tying the game 1-1 at 10:21. Conor Witherspoon and Brent Keefer earned the assists. Lone Star would go back up ahead at 14:06 on the PP again as Thomas Daskas bombed in his 18th tally giving the Brahmas a 2-1 edge. The Brahmas led in SOG, 23-17 after two periods of play.

Matt Guerra would shoot in the rebound in front at 6:28 of the 3rd period to push the Lone Star lead to 3-1. The Bugs would have a goal waved off with 7:56 left in the game which negated any chance for Shreveport to come back and Lone Star would lob in an EN SH goal at 19:52 making it a 4-1 contest.

The Bugs and Brahmas will conclude their last series of this regular season tomorrow night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
