Brahmas Down Bugs

Dec 14, 2019

The Shreveport Mudbugs (18-9) fell into a huge hole in the 1st period and couldn’t climb out falling to the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-1 on Teddy Bear Toss night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Brahmas had a big first period with goals from Michal Stinil, Evan Googins, and Thomas Daskas at 4:51, 7:28, and 7:43 respectively prompting the Bugs to pull Richie Parent in favor of Maiszon Balboa in net. Lone Star out-shot Shreveport 14-12 after one period of play.
At 14:51 of the 2nd period, the Bugs snapped out of a 0 for 34 powerplay slump when Matt Weber went top shelf in front for his fifth tally of the year to put Shreveport on the board and prompt fans to throw teddy bears onto the ice. Aidan Metcalfe and Ryan Dickinson earned the assists to make it a 3-1 Brahmas lead. Bugs out-shot the Brahmas, 25-23 after two periods of play.
The Bugs were kept at bay in the 3rd period and couldn’t stay out of the penalty box negating much of a chance to come back in the game.
Richie Parent’s eight game win streak in net comes to an end tonight as he was pulled at the 7:42 mark of the first period.
Shreveport suffers their home loss of the season.

The Bugs will continue their season-long home-stand next Friday night as they’ll battle another playoff foe in the Corpus Christi for a two-game series at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
