The Shreveport Mudbugs (23-10-2) couldn’t overcome tough penalties and a long second period falling 5-2 to the Odessa Jackalopes in front of a packed house in George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum Saturday night.
After a scoreless opening period, we saw seven goals combined from both teams in a wild and crazy second. It started with a pair of goals from James Richman at 1:14 and 8:00 respectively to give the Jacks a 2-0 edge. SHV responded with a great shot from Kyan Haldenby who slipped in his team-leading 16th tally of the year to make it 2-1 at 10:31. Hayden Nichol and Wil Murphy earned the assists. After Richman scored his third goal of the night at 12:02, it only took 19 seconds for Nick Marino to find space in the LW circle and rip in his 12th tally of the campaign to make it a 3-2 contest. Odessa would pour it on late in the period as the Bugs couldn’t stay out of the box and netted a pair of goals from Michael Kadlecik at 14:29 and 19:35 respectively to push the ODA lead to 5-2.
After the goal scoring parade in the second period, neither team found the back of the net in the third as the Bugs dropped their third straight contest overall losing 5-2.
The Bugs will conclude their season-long homestand next weekend against their arch-rival Lone Star Brahmas for our “Mardi Gras” themed series. Game one will be next Friday night w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:11 from George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum.
