The Shreveport Mudbugs (11-5-1) got a pair of goals and assists from Lucas Deeb and cruised past the Amarillo Wranglers, 5-1 at the Amarillo Civic Center Thursday afternoon.
The Bugs got off to a fast start as Logan Heroux stole a puck in the neutral zone and skated in and wired home his sixth goal from the point at 5:14 of the opening period to give SHV an early 1-0 edge. Shreveport added to their lead as Lucas Deeb had time and space in between the dots and drilled home his second in as many games making it a 2-0 contest. Deeb’s linemates Andrej Paricka and Hank Reed earned the helpers. SHV led in SOG, 18-11 after one.
SHV added to their lead on the PP at 3:33 of the second period as Wil Murphy wired home his second goal of the campaign from the LW circle to extend the Bugs’ lead to 3-0. The PP goal was assisted by Colin Vassallo and Brent Litchard. Amarillo got on the board with a PP tally of their own from Connor McNaughton at 13:41 to make it a 3-1. SOG favored the Bugs, 26-20 after two. Ryan Burke had to exit the game during the second period due to an apparent lower-body injury.
The Bugs were in cruise control in the third period as Deeb found a loose rebound in front and muscled in his second goal of the game at 7:33 to make it a 4-1 ballgame. Reed and Alex Park picked up the assists. Park then roofed in his second goal of the contest from the high slot to complete a resounding 5-1 victory over the Amarillo Wranglers. Reed earned his third assist on Park’s goal.
Carson Dorfman made 22 stops to earn the win in net and help SHV win their third straight contest.
The Bugs and Wranglers will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. from the Amarillo Civic Center.
