Mudbugs Fall to Corpus Christi

The Shreveport Mudbugs (22-5-3-2) dropped a tough one in overtime, 2-1 to their playoff foe Corpus Christi Ice Rays Thursday night at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX.

Shreveport struck first blood late in the 1st period when Gueorgui Feduolov fired home a rebound on the powerplay for his third goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Dominick Procopio and Cameron Cook at 19:11 of the opening period.

The Mudbugs led 1-0 after 1.

The IceRays rallied back in the 2nd period when Rylee St. Onge poked one in at 12:01 to tie the game at 1. The game stayed tied at 1 after two periods of play with the SOG favoring Corpus Christi, 23-20 at that point.

Both teams had glorious scoring in the third period, but there was no scoring in the period.

The Mudbugs dominated the extra session and nearly scored on a rebound chance, but the puck hit the post prompting the Ice Rays to come back the other way and score. Aleksi Peltonen went top shelf from the slot to net the game-winner.

James Durham made 29 saves in a losing effort.

Shreveport earned one point for their efforts giving them 49 on the season and a 12-point lead on the Brahmas for first place in the South Division.

The Mudbugs and Ice Rays will conclude their two-game set tomorrow night at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
