Mudbugs Take Down Brahmas

Nov 10, 2019

The Shreveport Mudbugs (13-7) scored four unanswered goals to take down the Lone Star Brahmas, 4-1 Saturday night at Nytex Sports Centre.
The Bugs and Brahmas exchanged a few good scoring chances on each end, but no scoring occurred. Lone Star led in SOG, 7-4 after one period of play.
The 2nd period was filled with lots of controversy on both sides of the ice. The Brahmas broke through on the scoreboard first with a perfect pass on the back-door to Stefan Miklakos off a delayed penalty call against the Bugs. Shreveport argued the net came off before the puck went in, but the refs let the goal stand and the Brahmas led 1-0 at 11:12 of the middle period. Then the Mudbugs scored off a 5 on 3 PP as Dawson Sciarrino slammed in his fourth goal of the year in front. The net on that play appeared to come off early, but the refs let that goal stand as well. Conor Witherspoon and Aidan Metcalfe earned the helpers on the game-tying goal at 13:18. Bugs led in SOG, 17-16 after two periods of play.
The Mudbugs erupted in a big way in the 3rd period when Janis Vizbelis wired home his first goal of the season from the LW circle just 14 seconds in giving Shreveport a 2-1 lead. Shreveport then capitalized on the powerplay as Alexis Girard poked in his first tally of the season in front. Jacob Smith and Gio Procopio earned the assists. The Bugs put the icing on the cake at 17:56 when Ryan Dickinson drilled home his first goal of the season from a distance for an EN goal to make it a 4-1 contest. Dawson Sciarrino and Procopio earned the helpers.
Richie Parent won his sixth straight start in the cage making 31 saves on the night.

The Bugs will have next weekend off before returning on the road to Corpus Christi to take on the Ice Rays at the American Bank Center the following week. Game one of the two-game series will be on Nov. 22nd. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
