Mudbugs Lose to Odessa

Mar 9, 2019

The Shreveport Mudbugs (24-20-8) couldn’t overcome injuries in the game and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night at Ector County Coliseum.
The Bugs got off to a roaring start to the contest as Jack Jaunich led a brilliant rush and dropped back a perfect pass which was slammed home from David Breazeale at 1:50 into the contest. It was Breazeale’s first goal of the season assisted by Jaunich and Timmy Clifton to give Shreveport the early 1-0. Odessa would respond on their first powerplay as Jack Conroy deflected in a goal at 9:22 tying the game up, 1-1. The Bugs led in SOG, 10-7 after one period of play.
Both teams traded good scoring opportunities in the 2nd period, but neither team was able to score. The Bugs led in SOG, 24-17 after two periods of play.
The Jacks broke the 1-1 just 58 seconds into the 3rd period when Jack Conroy hammered in his second goal of the game and fourth of the weekend to put Odessa in the lead, 2-1. The game stayed that way as the Bugs put a strong push throughout the period, but couldn’t beat Alex Camarre as he made 37 saves on the night. The Jacks would score two EN goals at the end to seal the game and defeat the Bugs, 4-1.
Shreveport has dropped three straight games and now will seek to get healthy after injuries to Timmy Clifton, Andrew Jackson, and Matt Weber sustained in the contest.

The Mudbugs will return home to George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum for a two-game series against the Topeka Pilots starting next Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
