Mudbugs Dominate Ice Rays

Dec 3, 2017

The Shreveport Mudbugs (17-4-2-2) scored early and cruised past the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the American Bank Center.
Shreveport lit up the scoreboard in the opening period. Brendon Gysbers started where he left off last night with a hard slapper from the point for his third goal of the year and second in as many games at the 5:43 mark. The Bugs led 1-0 when Zach Faremouth tapped home a perfect pass from Brendan Vansweden in front at 9:46 to give the Mudbugs a 2-0 edge. The Bugs wouldn’t stop there when Jake Transit put an innocent shot on net and it somehow beat their goalie for his 7th goal of the year at 19:26 of the period. Shreveport led 3-0 after the opening period.
The Mudbugs poured it on to begin the 2nd period when Jake Transit went on a breakaway and scored on the far side at 2:18. It was Transit’s 2nd goal of the game which was assisted by Derek Contessa and Jack Clement. Shreveport would lead 4-0 after two periods of play.
After Corpus Christi would score early in the third period, Jordan Fader put the icing on the cake slipping in his 7th goal of the season at 4:59 to make it a 5-1 Bugs lead and that’s where the scoring would end for both teams.
James Durham finishes with 25 saves on the day to grab his 7th personal win.

The Mudbugs will be back on the road to Amarillo, TX to take on the Bulls for the first time this season. The two-game series begins next Friday with puck drop scheduled for 7:05pm.
