Bugs Tame the Bulls

Jan 27, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs (29-6-3-2) lit the lamp shorthanded, added after that goal, and got timely saves from their new netminder to battle past the Amarillo Bulls. 3-1 Saturday night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.

After a scoreless first period, Brendan Gysbers opened up the scoring in the 2nd with a blast from the point for a shorthanded goal and his 5th tally of the season. Ryan Burnett grabbed the assist on the play at 3:47 of the middle frame. Mudbugs lead 1-0. Gueorgui Feduolov then added to the scoreboard by banging in a juicy rebound for his fifth tally as well at 12:53. Cameron Cook and Jake Transit earned the assists on the goal. Amarillo scored in the last minute of the 2nd and the Bugs led 2-1 after two periods of play.

The score stayed 2-1 thanks to many great saves from both sides including timely stops from new Bugs goalie Jaxon Castor making his home debut. Amarillo would put a strong push at the end of the regulation, but Ryan Burnett iced the game up scoring his 9th goal of the year in the empty-netter variety. Shreveport beats Amarillo, 3-1.

Castor picks up his first win in net at a Mudbug.

Shreveport is now a perfect 6-0 in their season series so far against Amarillo.

The Mudbugs will be off next weekend and return to action Feb. 9th at Amarillo to begin a two-game set from the Amarillo Civic Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm for both Friday and Saturday night.
