Bugs Shutout Ice Rays

The Shreveport Mudbugs (20-9) dominated the Corpus Christi Ice Rays en route to a 5-0 shutout victory Saturday night at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Bugs on the board early in the game as Tim Khokhlachev fired home his 2nd goal this series from the RW circle on a busted play at 2:19 of the 1st period making it a 1-0 contest. Jacob Smith and Aidan Metcalfe earned the assists. Then Shreveport would get a big tally from Gio Procopio who fired home his fourth goal of the year in the slot. Great work from Dawson Sciarrino and Conor Witherspoon to set it up and pick up the assists giving Shreveport a 2-0 lead. The Bugs led in SOG, 17-7 after one period of play.
Shreveport added to their lead as Warren Natyshak worked hard down low and scored his fifth goal on the year on a wraparound from the short side making it a 3-0 contest. The goal was unassisted and it was the only goal of the period. Bugs led in SOG, 26-23 after two periods of play.
The Bugs busted it open in the third period with goals from Jacob Smith and Garrett  Steele at 3:32 and 19:28 respectively to make it a 5-0 contest.
The goal support was more than enough for Richie Parent who made 32 saves to earn his third shutout of the season.
Shreveport improved to 6-0 this season against Corpus Christi.

The Mudbugs will return to action following Christmas break for a two-game series against the Topeka Pilots at George’s Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Game one of the two-game series will be next Friday night with puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p,m.Bugs Shutout Ice Rays
