Brahmas Snap Bugs’ Winning Streak

Feb 13, 2022

The Shreveport Mudbugs (19-15-5) stumbled out of the gates and could never recover as they fell to the Lone Star Brahmas, 5-2 and had their five-game winning streak snapped at Nytex Sports Centre Saturday night.
The Brahmas scored first for the second straight night just 55 seconds into the game when Tyler Nasca threw a shot through traffic from the right point which found its way through for his fifth tally of the year. It was the only of the opening period. Lone Star led in SOG, 8-4 after one.
Lone Star capitalized on the PP in the 2nd period when Tanner Daniels fired a rocket home from the RW circle to give the Brahmas a 2-0 edge at 6:14. The home team wouldn’t stop there as Kyle Furey got some open space in the RW circle and flipped in his fourth goal of the year along the short side to extend the lead to 3-0 at 8:19. The big dagger to the middle frame came at 19:59 when Arthur Turansky threw a puck towards the net which deflected off of the Bugs blue line and into the net for a tough luck goal to push the deficit for the Bugs to 4-0. Lone Star led in SOG, 22-9 after two.
Coach Soupy pulled Devon Bobak in favor of Simon Bucheler in the cage to begin the third period. The Bugs clawed back at 10:03 of the third and got on the board as Connor Gatto snapped a shot into the net from the RW circle for his ninth tally of the year to make it a 4-1 Lone Star lead. Gatto would rattle in his second of the night at 18:44 to cut to a 4-2 margin and leave a glimmer of hope for the reigning champs. The Brahmas would finally put the game away at 19:54 as Jack Collins tapped home an EN goal to seal up a 5-2 victory and snap Shreveport’s winning streak at five games.

The Bugs will begin a big three-game series next weekend against the Wichita Falls Warriors. Game 1 will be Friday night at 7:05 p.m. from Kay Yeager Coliseum.
