Mudbugs Tender First Defenseman Nikolai Jenson

Feb 13, 2017

SHREVEPORT – The Shreveport Mudbugs, proud members of the North American League are pleased to announce the signing of defenseman Nikolai Jenson to a tender agreement for the 2017-2018 season.

The 2000 birth year hails from the
Omaha ‘AAA’ program and is the first defenseman to sign with the Mudbugs for next season. “Nikolai is a smooth skating, offensive minded D-man who has good quickness, vision and likes to be active in the other team’s end zone,” Director of Scouting Mike Grattan said. “He also takes pride in his defensive play and has good
stopping power when he hits.”

The Cold Spring, MN native has enjoyed an impressive season thus far, tallying 8 goals, 18 assists and 26 total points through 22 games with Omaha’s U16 ‘AAA’ team. He is fourth on his team in points and is second overall in points by defensemen for the entire North American Prospects Hockey League.

The 6’0, 180 pound Jenson is a member of an Omaha squat that has finished the 2016-2017 NAPHL season with a perfect 22-0 record. Team Omaha is currently readying for the NAPHL playoffs, which takes place February 17-20.

Associate Head Coach Francis Anzalone believes the Mudbugs have signed a talented young defenseman with impressive on and off ice intangibles. “Obviously, first and foremost, we were drawn to Nikolai’s hockey skill set,” Anzalone said. “He is certainly a young
player with a bright future, yet at the same time, he is mature beyond his age in many aspects, most importantly, as a man.

We are excited to watch Nikolai’s continued development as his team readies for its league and district playoffs.”
Jenson is the sixth player signed by the Mudbugs as the club’s scouting staff continues to prepare for its second season in
the NAHL. To learn more about the players signed by the Mudbugs for 2017-2018, click here.
