Mudbugs Sweep the Knights

The Shreveport Mudbugs had to rally in the third period from a 1-0 deficit to come back and beat the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights, 2-1 Saturday night to advance to the Robertson Cup title game.

 

Both teams traded good scoring chances in the first period, but nothing went across in another feeler-outer of an opening frame. Mudbugs led in SOG, 10-9 after one.

The Knights broke open the scoring board when Lincoln Hatten pushed across his 2nd goal of the playoffs off a rebound giving WIlkes-Barre a 1-0 lead just :53 seconds into the 2nd per. The Bugs pushed offensively, but Christian Stoever made some nice saves as the Knights led 1-0 after two.

The Mudbugs came strong out in the 3rd period and Jordan Fader threw a puck in front which was tipped in from Ryan Burnett for his fifth tally of tihe playoffs to tie the game up at 1 at 5:02. Shreveport built off that and got faster drawing a penalty and going on the powerplay. The Bugs were 1 for 7 on the man advantage, but capitalized on one of them which was the game and series winner. Gueorgui Feduolov was able to tuck in a juicy rebound in front of a chaotic net to score his third goal of the postseason and lift the Bugs to a 2-1 at 7:13 of the 3rd period.

Jaxon Castor made 20 saves to preserve the 2-1 win and help Shreveport sweep the series, 2-0 and advance to the Robertson Cup Championship game on Monday.

The Mudbugs will either face the Minot Minotauros or the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Monday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm from Fogerty Arena.
