MUDBUGS SWEEP SHOWCASE

Sep 23, 2017

The Shreveport Mudbugs (5-1) grinded out a 3-2 victory over the Brookings Blizzard with a late goal in the 3rd period to extend their winning streak to five games and go 4-0 in the 2017 NAHL Showcase.
Trailing 1-0 in the 2nd period, the Mudbugs responded in a big way as Brendan VanSwedan tipped home a goal in front at 4:20 and Brendan Gysbers was able to fire home his first of the year at 14:02 to give Shreveport a 2-1 advantage after 2 period of play.
Brookings tied it up early in the 3rd period, but Gabe Wahl was able to tap one across in front of the cage with hard work down low on the powerplay to give the Bugs a 3-2 lead late in the 3rd period. That goal ended up being the game-winner which was assisted by Andrew Lane and Roberts Baranovskis.
Gustav Grigals was solid in nets with 22 saves on the day to get the win.
Shreveport wins their fifth straight overall and goes a perfect 4-0 in the showcase.
The Mudbugs will travel to Topeka to take on the Roadrunners next Friday night for the first game of a two-game set. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
