Mudbugs Shut Down the Knights

The Shreveport Mudbugs slay the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights, 2-0 in front of a packed house at Fogerty Arena in Minnesota to grab the 1-0 series lead Friday night.
Shreveport opened up the scoring when Ryan Burnett made a slick backhander from the far side for his fourth goal of the playoffs assisted by Nikolai Jenson within the first three minutes of the game. The Bugs led 1-0 after one period of play.
Both teams traded scoring chances in the 2nd period, but both goalies stood tall. Shreveport led in SOG, 20-8 after two.
The Mudbugs extended their lead when Brendan VanSweden rifled home his 2nd goal of the playoffs from the high slot at 5:19 giving Shreveport the 2-0 lead. Roberts Baranovskis grabbed the only assist on the goal.
Jaxon Castor had to make only 11 saves to pick up the shutout.
Shreveport leads the best of three series, 1-0.

The Mudbugs and Knights will play game 2 tomorrow night from Fogerty Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm. Don’t forget to catch the game at Buffalo Wild Wings in Bossier at 7pm Saturday night.
