Mudbugs Fall to the Ice Rays

The Shreveport Mudbugs fell behind and got beat by the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 5-1 in game 3 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi Thursday night.

The Ice Rays scored twice in the 1st period with goals from Dakota Concannon at 9:07 & Rylee St. Onge at 17:35 to give Corpus Christi the early 2-0 edge over Shreveport after the opening period of play. Ice Rays led in SOG, 10-6 after 1.
The Mudbugs got on the board at 3:11 when Derek Contessa made a brilliant between the legs backhand pass to Nikolai Jenson who jammed in his first goal of the playoffs cutting the lead in half, 2-1. Brendan VanSweden got the secondary helper on the goal. Ice Rays answered back at 19:15 when Larry Jungwirth backhanded home a goal to give Corpus Christi a 3-1 lead after two periods. Shreveport led in SOG, 21-16 at this point.
Shreveport opened up the third period with a PP after Dominick Procopio got roughed up at the end of the 2nd period. The Bugs couldn’t capitalize and the Ice Rays responded with a quick tally from Noah Roofe on an odd-man rush making it a 4-1 contest. Corpus Christi added a goal late in the 3rd to close out a 5-1 win over the Mudbugs.
Jaxon Castor got pulled from the game late in the 3rd period in favor of Gustavs Grigals.
The Mudbugs still lead the best of five series, 2-1 and can advance to the South Division Finals with a win tomorrow night.
The Mudbugs and Ice Rays will play game 4 tomorrow night at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
