Mudbugs Defeat Amarillo

The Shreveport Mudbugs (28-6-3-2) scored two quick goals in the 2nd period to lead the way past the Amarillo Bulls, 4-1 in a Mardi Gras themed Georges Pond at Hirsch Coliseum Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Mudbugs erupted for two quick goals in the 2nd. Roberts Baranovskis put a ripper in for his 6th goal of the year on the PP. Andrew Lane and Ryan Burnett grabbed the assists. The Bugs led 1-0 at 12:28 and it lasted for only 45 seconds until Jay Feiwell banged in a juicy rebound for his sixth tally of the year unassisted putting Shreveport up 2-0 after two periods of play.

Amarillo responded 38 seconds into the third scoring on the powerplay cutting the lead in half, 2-1. Shreveport responded just 22 seconds later as Jacob Holmers buried home his fourth goal of the year from the high slot giving the Bugs, a 3-1 edge just a minute into the third. Line mates Jay Feiwell and Jake Transit grabbed the assists on the goal. Cameron Cook would muscle in an empty netter tally for his 15th goal of the season at 19:20 assisted by Jack Clement icing the win for the Mudbugs.

Gustavs Grigals picked up his personal 14th win of the season recording 23 saves in the contest.

The Mudbugs and Bulls will conclude their two-game set tomorrow night at George’s Pond. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm. ​
