Mudbugs Acquire Veteran Forward Cam Cook

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 22, 2016

SHREVEPORT – The Shreveport Mudbugs, proud members of the North American League, have announced that they have acquired 1997 born forward Cam Cook from the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in exchange for conditional assets.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native split the 2015-2016 NAHL season with the Ice Dogs and the Kenai River Brown Bears, where he was part of Fairbanks’ Robertson Cup Championship winning team.  In 51 combined NAHL games last season, Cook posted 12 goals and 14 assists.  He spent the second half of the previous season, 2014-2015, with Kenai River.

Head Coach Karlis Zirnis is excited about acquiring a player with Cook’s attributes.

“Cam is a hard skating, two-way forward who competes first and foremost,” Zirnis said.  “He is a shooter and is willing to go to the hard areas of the rink.  Most importantly, he has the character qualities that we are looking for in a Mudbugs player.”

Before joining Kenai River in December of 2014, Cook started the 14-15 campaign in eastern Canada, with Nepean of the Tier II Junior ‘A’ Central Canadian Hockey League.  He appeared in 17 games with the Raiders.

The 6’0, 190 pound left shot forward has additional junior playing experience, having skated for the New Hampshire Monarchs and Maksymum Jr. Hockey of the former Empire Junior Hockey League.  Cook also spent one season playing midget hockey for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres program of the Tier I Elite Hockey League, which is one of the top ‘AAA’ amateur leagues in the US.

Zirnis is also quick to point out the importance of adding a player with a championship on his resume.

“Success doesn’t happen by accident and Cam had an opportunity to be part of a lot of winning when he played in Fairbanks last season.  His perspective will be of great value in our locker room as we continue the process of building our first NAHL Mudbugs team here in Shreveport,” Zirnis commented.
