Ice Rays Sweep the Bugs

The Shreveport Mudbugs (40-10-3-3) fall to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 3-1 and get swept at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum for the first time all season.The Ice Rays scored first again on the PP at 5:36 of the opening period when Jayson Dimizio ripped a shot from the far circle for his 12th goal of the season. Corpus Christi led 1-0 after the opening period of play.

The Ice Rays continued to shut down the Mudbugs and capitalized on the man advantage again as Brendan Miller poked in his 20th goal assisted by Grayson Gavin at 16:31 of the middle period. Shreveport put a strong push and outshot Corpus Christi, 37-17, but couldn’t get anything past Chad Veltri in net. The Rays led 2-0 after two periods.

Shreveport battled back in the third period as Jordan Fader was able to tuck home his 15th goal of the year at 12:41 assisted by Andrew Lane and Brendan VanSweden to give the Bugs life just trailing 2-1. The Mudbugs would make a late strong push to tie the game, but Chad Veltri stood tall in net for the Ice Rays making 53 saves on the night to preserve the win. Brendan Miller laced in an EN goal for his 2nd tally of the night concluding the 3-1 Corpus Christi victory.

The Mudbugs will conclude their home schedule next Friday and Saturday night as they’ll host rival Lone Star in Georges Pond at Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm for both contests. ​
