Bugs Sweep the Bulls

The Shreveport Mudbugs (22-5-2-2) knock off the Amarillo Bulls, 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
Both teams were kept off the scoreboard in the first period, but traded quality scoring chances. Shreveport led in SOG, 12-8 after one period of play.
After Amarillo scored the game’s first goal 51 seconds into the 2nd period, Cole Quisenberry responded just 23 seconds later backhanding home his 10th goal of the year tying the game at 1. Jordan Fader grabbed the only assist on the goal. The Bulls would get another across at 10:09, but the Mudbugs answered back again with a goal of their own. Cam Cook fired home his 10th tally of the season from the right wing circle on the powerplay. Brendan Gysbers picked up the only assist on Cook’s goal. The game was tied at 2 after two periods of play.
The Bugs broke a 2-2 tie when Zach Faremouth slipped in his third goal of the season from a tough angle giving Shreveport their first lead of the game at 3-2 at 4:11 into the 3rd period. Shreveport would extend their lead when Roberts Baranovskis buried home his fifth goal of the year on a perfect pass from Cameron Cook at 11:31 giving the Mudbugs a 4-2 edge. Jordan Fader would put the icing on the cake as he nailed in an empty-netter at 18:42 pushing the Bugs lead to 5-2.
James Durham was terrific in net grabbing his 12th personal win of the season.
Shreveport owns the season series so far against Amarillo improving to 4-0 against them.

The Mudbugs will be off for Christmas week and return to action Dec. 28th as they’ll be in Corpus Christi to take on the Ice Rays for a two-game set. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm from the American Bank Center.
