Bugs Skin the Bears

Feb 25, 2018

The Shreveport Mudbugs (35-7-3-2) powered and muscled past the Kenai Rive Brown Bears, 4-1 in a wild and testy affair Saturday night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.

Shreveport opened up the scoring in the 1st period when Jordan Fader powered into the offensive zone shorthanded and threw a puck out in front which was tipped home by Cole Quisenberry for his 13th goal of the year. The Bugs led 1-0 after one period of play.

After a scoreless second period, the Bugs executed a perfect powerplay on a tic-tac-toe play finished off by Jack Clement from the near circle tapping it in for his 10th goal of the year giving Shreveport a 2-0 edge. Cam Cook continued his brilliant season with a great individual effort stealing the puck on the forecheck shorthanded and powering a shot into the back of the net for his 21st goal unassisted. The Mudbugs led 3-0 when a big fight ensued prompting goalie Gustavs Grigals to go fight their goalie. Both goalie got kicked out of the game. Kenai River scored a goal to avoid the shutout bid from Shreveport and then Jordan Fader wristed home his 12th goal into the empty net to seal the game up at 4-1 in favor of the Bugs.

Shreveport gets the sweep over the Bears and wins their 14th straight at Georges Pond.

The Mudbugs will return to action as they’ll face off against the best team in the NAHL – Fairbanks IceDogs at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm for both next Friday and Saturday.
