The Shreveport Mudbugs behind their Switzerland goalie beat the Lone Star Brahmas, 1-0 to grab the preseason opening win Saturday night.
The Mudbugs and Brahmas were scoreless after the 1st period of play. Both teams had quality scoring chances, but nothing went into the back of the net.
Shreveport broke a scoreless tie at the 8:14 mark of the 2nd period on a fluky bounce in front which was backhanded home from Emils Ezitis to give the Bugs the 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Jack Clement.
That goal would be the game’s only goal as the Switzerland native Tim Guggisberg was brilliant in the cage with 19 saves to preserve the 1-0 shutout win for the Mudbugs.
Shreveport returns home tomorrow night to begin a two-game set against Topeka. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm.
